Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
Winner of Best Original Song at the Oscars, and it's clear why.
9. Cliffs Of Dover - Tommy Angelo
Guitar Hero III introduced me to this catchy finger-bleeder.
3. Beds Are Burning - Novaspace
A remix of Midnght Oil's classic, whose singer was just named Austrailia's Environment Minister!
4. Sixteen - Demon Hunter
Heavy and melodious. This is just one of many great tracks.
2. Secret Crowds - Angels And Airwaves
Again, this one song barely does the album justice.
3. Shadowplay - The Killers
The Killers covering Joy Division?? Yes, please!
4. Stuttering - Ben's Brother
Clever and charming. Dentyne Ice deserves the credit for this discovery.
5. Here It Goes - Jimmy Eat World
Last month's single lead me to the album which lead me to this gem!
6. A "no nonsense" station, Radio 104.5 is definitely the post-modernists radio station, with no flashy names or defined playlists. They're slogan is "We play music. If you like it, fine." That being said it is clear that they are more of an alternative radio station, tailor made for college students and like minded individuals. You can check them out at http://www.radio1045.com/.

1. Time Won't Let Me Go - The Bravery
The Bravery are back and burning up the air wave with this diddy.
2. Lake Michigan - Rogue Wave
Enjoy this song over a cup of shmo'bro.
3. Hook - Blues Traveler
The most blatantly catchy song in existence.
4. Big Casino - Jimmy Eat World
Instantly gratifying. Good to see Jimmy hasn't lost his hunger.
5. Straight Lines - Silverchair
I had to use the power of the net to find. They NEVER said what it as on the radio.
6. Calling You - Blue October
I'm starting to really like these guys. This song has a lot of heart.
7. Missed The Boat - Modest Mouse
The last few singles didn't catch my attention as much as this one totally did.

SEPTEMBER 07

SEPTEMBER 07:
1. The Running Free - Coheed And Cambria
What can I say?I like C&C. Sanchez's singing seems more natural on this track without any loss to his trademark high notes - a sign of vocal training?
2. When Did Your Heart Go Missing? - Rooney
From commercials to MTV, it's been hard to avoid getting this insidious pop tune stuck in my head.
3. Stronger (Edited) - Kanye West
Definite "guilty pleasure". I just found myself cuing this song up too many times to not put it on the list.
4. On A Friday - Blaqk Audio
After my first listen, I immediately had to hear this song again. The pay off in the end is just so worth it.
5. Brink Of Disaster - Mae
Yay Mae! It's always fun to rediscover a band you had once loved and see that they're still kick'n it (with Byron Allen)
6. We Might Fall - Ryan Star
I had forgotten how powerful Ryan Star's voice was and just why I was so impressed with the rise of the "Black Horse"...but now I remember!
7. Wash The Day Away - TV On The Radio
After buying their album, I discovered this hidden gem toward the end of the CD. Mr. Bellamy - Paul McCartney
Evidence that the "old rag" still hasn't rung dry. This song is cool.
3. Shake Ya Boogie [featuring Steven Bernstein] - Mocean Worker
This NPR recommended DJ works largely with classic Jazz samples. Great atmosphere.
4. The Mesopotamians - They Might Be Giants
Easily one of my favorite tracks from the new album. I'm already inspired by the level of synergy with which the many members of this band function; it's clear that they share a love for all styles of music, no matter how far out there they might be. Check out their debut album, and/or just wait for my next playlist in which they should be featured heavily.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://zetabyte.blogspot.com/2007/06/toca-ft-pigeon-john.html' title='TOCA ft. Boom Boom - Daler Mehndi
Let the mayhem begin! Daler always delivers on music just crazy enough to be funny, but serious enough to be catchy.
2. Set It Off - Skindred
Keep the party going with this well mixed batch of reggae-metal.
3. Le Disko - Shiny Toy Guns
These guys are definitely my Artist of the Month. The latest in this decades "dance-rock" craze.
4. Headspin - Rock Star: Supernova
Though no as fun as Marty's "Trees", this may be the best song to come out of Rockstar yet.
5. Darshan - Tracy Scott Silverman
Here's a nice relaxing interlude....and a great transition into the next song.
6. Mad World - Michael Andrews
Whether you know it from "Donnie Darko" or "Gears of War", this tender remake is certain to put you in a tragic mood.
7. Welcome To The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
Is this the title track to a "rock masterpiece"? Probably not, but it's catchy none the less (same goes for the album)
8. Paper Shoes - Incubus
Incubus is back with more great tunes! Here's one of them.
9. We Are Pilots - Shiny Toy Guns
You've seen the sleazy side of STG, but before you hide them from your girlfriend give this heart-felt song a listen.
10. The Dead Parade - Rock Star: Supernova
And just like that the "parade" lyric is saturated. But that doesn't stop this song from rocking. I had to put this up because it features a choir of our favorite final four.

Honorable Mentions (tracks not on Rhapsody):
1. OMC - MC Chris
MC Chris proves to be "not just a nerd rapper" but an ambassador for the next generation of suburban hip-hoppers.
2. Just Get Up and Dance (Remix) - Afrika Bambaataa
I've only heard a looping fraction of this song, but even that truely impressed me. A full cut eludes me to this day. http://chrono.ytmnd.com/
3. Amazon River - Philip Glass/Uakti
I bought the album, "Aguas da Amazonia", after hearing a few tracks from it at an Eastern dance show. This track wasn't one of them, but stands out to me as the most inspirational, conjuring a style somewhere between my favorites, Muse and Incubus.

10 06

10 06:
1. Morning Passages - Philip Glass
Muse's producer compared them to this 20th century composer, and rightly so.
2. I Don't Feel Like Dancin' (Album version) - Scissor Sisters
Needless to say, this song title is an exercise in irony.
3. Here in Your Arms - Hellogoodbye
Pop goodness from a small upstart band.
4. Pictures Of You - The Cure
Ever notice how easily this could be a Dashboard Confessional song if it were sung an octave higher?
5. A Method - TV On The Radio
A haunting mellody from this already influencial band.
6. Who Wants To Live Forever - Queen
Majestic Metal Perfection. This song inspires me time and time again.
7. Narcolepsy - Ben Folds Five
I recalled this song from many years past....still holds up today.
8. Operation Ground And Pound - DragonForce
Skip it if you want to, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't been listing to this ALOT.
9. Bring It (Snakes On A Plane) - Cobra Starship
The Sounds, Gym Class Heroes, and some other guy join this band to promote S.O.A.P.
10. All The Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople
There was a time when Queen opened for this band, but alas Mott the Hoople never reached the same level of success.

DragonForce - "Operation Ground and Pound"

Typically, I don't pay attention to the rumblings of the Metal underground, but lately one band has been making some substantial quakes. DragonForce has gained quite a large following, as made evident by this unusually "high" budget music video. I like the fact that this band doesn't resort to grunts and barks, but goes the melodic route. They probably won't turn any new people on to Metal, but they'll definitely give all the OLD Metalheads something NEW to rally behind. It's like....if the '80s happened....today!

8 06

8 06:
Since moving back to KoP these songs have caught my attention. The result is a kind of odd mix of Vaudville Hip-Hop and Glam Rock, go figure.

1. Just A Thought - Gnarls Barkley
Matt showed me this one. Thought it'd make a good opener.
2. Never Win - Fischerspooner
Brad showed me this one. Fiendishly catchy.
3. Space Monkey - Placebo
Finally checked these guys out. Turns out they rock!
4. Black Poison Blood - Kill Hannah
KH's second major release yealds some good tunes.
5. Skanky Panky - Kid Koala
Ahhhh....intermission.
6. Enjoy The Silence (Reinterpreted) - Depeche Mode
This song keeps popping up in my life. I blame The Tube and Ryan Star.
7. Follow The Cops Back Home - Placebo
Like I said, they rock. Deserving a secong song on this playlist.
8. Guess I've been in less of a lay-back mood recently and more of a "I wanna ROCK!" mood. It also has alot less new music than I usually try to have, but certain nuggets in musics past can not be ignored. Enjoy!

1. Pure Imagination - Buckethead
Please excuse the odd begining but I HAD to kick my playlist off with this song.
2. Hazel Eyes - The Darkness
A selection from my "album of the month", a rocking song about monogamy
3. Common People - Pulp
A good song that had a good cover
4. 1979 - Vaux
A good cover of a good song
5. Vicinity Of Obscenity - System Of A Down
"bannana, bannana, terri cotta PIE!" (one of the Systemiest Downs you've heard)
6. New Noise - Refused
A deep song about creative obligation "buried" under distortion and screaming
7. Krafty - New Order
NEW Wave vets, NEW Order, on their NEW album reflect on the fast pace of life
8. Blind Man - The Darkness
Cynisism is all that lies between this song being serious rather than comic
9. Happy Holidays (Beef Wellington remix) - Bing Crosby
As this playlist nears its close, here's a little diddy to keep you in the spirit
10. We Are the Successors of Communism - Ji Ming
Hopefully this song will inspire you too to become a "Successor of Communism""

11-05 B

11-05 B:
"1. Nonsense - Komeda
An older band sounding like a mixture of Postal Service and Yeah Yeah Yeahs
2. Publish My Love - Rogue Wave
Spacey yet energetic, a successful recomendation to me from Rhapsody
3. Be Still My Heart (remix) - The Postal Service
A B-side from one of my favorite bands
4. Mama - Genesis
Filled with quiet intensity, David Copperfield loved this song and so will you
5. Did I Tell You - The Spinto Band
Say "hello" to the Spinto Band, seven kids who rock beyond their years
6. There's Never Enough Time - Postal Service
This B-side proves once more that bad news is best delivered to happy music
7. Life In A Northern Town - The Dream Academy
This song`s use in commercials greatly distracts from how cool it actually is
8. Oh Mandy - The Spinto Band
You'll be hooked after one listen or your money back! (note the lack of distortion)
9. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (Single Version) - Street Drum Corps
The Used joins with Street Drum Corps to bring us a rhythm driven rendition of John Lennon`s politically charged Christmas classic
10. In Like A Lion (Always Winter) - Relient K
Another Christmas song, this time inspired by Narnia, thankfully not cheesy"

Rob's Tracks 11-8-05

Rob's Tracks 11-8-05:
"1. This track stands out as being a high energy departure from Imogen's other matierial and is proof of this artists stylistic diversity.
3. One Way Ticket (Album Edit Amended) - The Darkness
- The Darkness is back and darker than ever!
